Survey aims to shed light on COVID-19’s spread in state

A UW Medicine study is underway to try to characterize the level and spread of COVID-19 across Washington state. The goal is to undersand who has been infected and which population areas have been hardest-hit. The information will help care providers to be ready for a potential fall wave of the virus.

The WAshington coronaVirus Exposure Survey (WAVES) aims to answer questions about the virus and our state’s response.

"Who are the people infected? Where are they, what are their characteristics?  We're actually actively inviting people to participate in this," said Dr. Keith Jerome, who heads the Virology Division at UW Medicine.  He said residents across the state will be randomly selected to receive a notice via U.S. Mail that has a QR code and phone number that will connect people with the survey.  

Funding for the study is being provided by the Paul G Allen Family Foundation.
